Mercedes-Benz considering A-Class roadster for the States

There are rumors that the Mercedes-Benz A-Class might come visit to America. It have been swirling around for years.Trust me, it sucks. The question circulating around whether the car is similar to the image in the U.S. that Mercedes-Benz has worked so hard to come out with a good concept cars for years. Categorize as an economy car, the A-Class clashes with the rest of the brand's upscale line-up and doesn't seem appropriate to put in the same dealership where upper-crusters are shopping for the latest S-Class. One possible remedy could be reducing the number of seats and the losing the car's top, an idea first broached by the SLA Concept (above) that debuted in 2000.

A roadster would make sense for the German automaker, as BMW, its main rival, is rumored to be thinking hard about launching a similarly-small Z2 roadster based on its 1 Series platform. Although production plans have already been considered, no decisions have been made. The next redesign of the A- and B-Class from Mercedes is scheduled for 2012, so there's still plenty of time to get it all sorted.

Tesla Roadster v1.5 2009

This is the results, briefly test drive a genuine production model with the latest transmission and software updates (aka "powertrain 1.5"). Check out our round-two impressions after the jump.

Tesla Motors revealed latest Tesla Roadster, dubbed v1.5 because of its new single-speed transmission. While Tesla went through some teething issues with its early two-gear transmission, this one is identical to the "problem solved" production version now being delivered to customers. Mid-mounted in the chassis is a 248-hp electric motor hooked up to the new single-speed fixed-gear Borg-Warner transmission. The Tesla Roadster is actually built on a Lotus Elise platform. Originating in England, the bare extruded aluminum chassis is shipped to Tesla's brand-new assembly facility in San Jose, California. Upon arrival, it is mated with an electric motor (shaded in gray and located between the rear wheels in the above image), 6,831 individual microprocessor-controlled liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery cells (in purple), some seriously sophisticated electronics (in green), and all of the other go-fast components needed to make a proper sports car. With all 992 pounds of batteries hidden under the custom carbon fiber body panels, the Tesla Roadster weighs about 2,700 pounds.

Tesla Roadster - A powerful car

Tesla RoadsterThe Tesla Roadster is one of the more impressive supercars that we have seen in quite a long time. The design of the car is absolutely breathtaking – but don’t think that this takes away from the power. The roadster runs on exhaust free plug power and was built specifically to be a car full of power.

According to a Norwegian specialty car importer the Euro Tesla is supposed to have 300 horsepower with a 13,000 rpm redline. The roadster is most likely to come equipped with the drivetrain 1.5 – which is said to be available later in the production run for Tesla. The new and improved gearbox has removed a gear, will provide better cooling, and will have an upgraded power electronics module.

We are all excited to see more than just a single picture of the Tesla Roadster and are looking forward to seeing exactly what the interior looks like and how well it drives.
